I am male and 15. I developed this Cold Urticaria or more known as the Cold Allergy this year. I remember I first experienced the itchiness and the hives during my night tuition class. There were 2 air conditioners set to 16 degree celsius. The girls were so annoyying and they want the classroom to be cooler. I sometimes wear my jacket to overcome this. Things got really worst when I went to the mall. The air conditioners were so strong I began to itch my ears and my arms. My nose and some part of the face turned red. This was a big problem for me.
After quite a while suffering the cold allergy. I began to develop something new. I began to itch severely while bathing. It turns out my skin became to itch after contact with water. I do not know if its a real disease but it is called Aquagenic Pruritus. My conditions became worse than ever. My cold allergy became greater just this morning when its just a cool wind pass through me and I began to sense a mild itch.
I do not know if the Cold Urticaria can relate to Aquagenic Pruritus. The pruritus cause itch on the skin after contact with water but somehow it doesn’t effect the palm, face and head. I can also feel a mild itch while sweating. All I know is I am suffering from these two. I am afraid that they will change my life. I used to be a swimmer. I couldn’t imagine that I cannot swim anymore in my life. I haven’t tried swimming yet after diagnosed with these skin conditions because of a big exam and I need to study hard.
I haven’t tried any treatment yet besides than bathing with hot water. It really helps me to ease the itch temporarily and clean myself longer. I couldn’t even stay in the cold shower for more than 8 minutes. I have no other choice but to quickly dry my body and wear my clothes. I live in Malaysia which is a hot and humid country all year long with an equator climate. This might sound weird but I do think that when you live in a hot country and get exposed to the low temperature suddenly can cause this. It maybe because I’m unfamiliar with the cold. I have cold urticaria all my life, i remember having hives every morning before going to school and when cold wind strikes my i have lumps all over my face or over the exposed area, i was so young then that i will just cry and all family members especially my mama will go after me without knowing what to do. I am now a mother of 3 age 31 still have cold hives as my husband put it, it is part of me he never saw it as abnormality but just a part of me. But just like my mama he is always ready with antihistamines. 1 of my 3 kids is having some hives he is only 4 and it sucks. I wanna share more of the experience if u will let me.

Currently i have smaller hives just like insect bites i am taking some essentials and proflavanol c from i believe a famous seller of vitamins and actually help, i believe. But swimming in the pool or sea or lake still is a scare but i do it now with more caution luckily hives are not that much if ever they will attack me i just take some warm drink and curl up in bed that is after swimming. Day to day life hives are there sometimes they are gone, i also noticed when body is so tense i have attacks sometimes more of my everyday hives is because of cold sweat and wind and ai rconditioning unit , we live in warm country, so sudden temp change can caused it.

I am so anxious to try these natural remedies mentioned. I am a RN and did have to pass on several jobs that would have involved me monitoring different sites that involved going outside from building to building.
I often found myself sitting on my hands when watching TV at home etc as my husband would put the ceiling fan on to circulate the heat from the fireplace. Raindrops, cold breeze, our pool in the summer etc as others have mentioned I can no longer tolerate. My allergy started about 20 years ago..that I am aware of..while waitng for the bus with my children. Fortunately I am able to do home nursing now and regulate the temp by the clothing I wear and blankets with a very understanding family.

My son had symptoms of cold uticaria, caused him to break out during basketball practice and when outside, and many other occasions. He got to the point he was wearing a ski mask on the way to school, so he wouldn’t break out before classes. I missed work, as I had to take him home from school when this would occur–he also was getting short of breath, which was scary. It did seem that Benedryl helped with symptoms, though.
I did a little research, read that cold uticaria can be caused by a vitamin D deficiency. Other sites also mentioned supplementing with B12. I bought both, and it’s been 2 months now, no breakouts. The acid test, so to speak, was when we went to the waterpark recently, and also went snowboarding, on vacation. No breakouts–either scenario. Thought folks should now, may help alleviate a lot of suffering.

In Chinese Medicine, cold uticaria is an invasion of cold entering in to the body and getting lodged. The main treatments that work is to drive out the cold. Ginger and cinnamon should be used frequently. Also boil ginger and let it cool to body temperature, then soak the affected areas of the body in the ginger soak. This will help to drive out the cold invasion. Sounds simple, but it works. Also, green tea is energetically cooling, so that would not be the recommended tea choice as it does not help to warm the cold. Ginger tea or a chai cinnamon blend is best. Hope this helps, and if in doubt, think about foods that are warming, and add spices into your diet!

I have had Cold Urticaria all of my life. I am 23 years old and never grew out of this.
I have a severe case. When i was younger i had a full hive breakout and i almost went in to shock. also as it looks from these photos from the video my skin gets way worse. I break out in to hives and my bumps are very huge. I also get them EVERYWHERE on my body.
Luckily i live in California and unable to live in colder climates. Even when it gets cold here in California(Meaning wind and under 65 degrees) i have to make sure i always have my jacket with me. But i did not know about cold drinks! I suffer from Ashtma as well (Boom! Double whammy) So now when i think about it, when i drink a nice cold beer (Or any drink for that matter) i sometimes would start swelling at my throat. I just thought “This must be my ashtma again” and start weezing. Which is just something i have gotten used to. Even before i came to this page i just had two glasses of cold water and now i am weezing.
This page really did help and glad that i am not the only in the world! I am going to stay away from cold drinks and going to try to find a cure (Hopefully one out there)
After i get my bachelor degree in Economics, i was thinking of joining the Navy to help pay for my loans through one of their programs and then use the GI bill to pay for my Masters. But…. How if i am allergic to cold and will be traveling all over the world in a ship. I dont want to enlist then get discharged due to my medical condition. but i still got a year and half before hopefully i can find a cure.

I HAVE COLD URTICARIA FOR OVER 20 YEARS I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE TREATMENTS STATED HERE. THE I CUBE TEST DOESN’T ALWAYS WORKS EVERY TIME. I LIVED IN WARM STATES AS WELL AS COLD STATES. I HAVE NOT HAD GOOSE BUMBS IN 20 YEARS I GO STRAIT INTO HIVE PRODUCTION. IT MAY GO ON FOR DAYS I EVEN HIVE THREW EPIPEN. MOST PEOPLE DON’T UNDERSTAND EVEN SOME MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS DON’T BELIEVE YOU CAN BE ALLERGIC TO THE COLD UNITL THEY SEE IT. I ALMOST DIED MANY TIME IVE PASSED OUT. I have been diagnosed with cold Urticaria and find that when I experience cold conditions my body goes into shock. I use hot water bottles and warm conditions to overcome this shock however I find the experience of going into shock quite awful. I wonder if my condition is due to an underlying blood condition rather than getting an attack of hives.
There are related blood disorders connected to cold urticaria. Each is very different
and should be looked into carefully.
Raynaud’s disease can be triggered by the cold. As it’s a vascular disorder, spasms of
blood vessels can develop in the toes and fingers which can cause pain or force the
fingers or toes to turn blue. These incidents don’t last for long though, from a few
minutes to an hour at most.
Cold Agglutination disease is a blood disorder which can develop when the temperature
of the blood is below body temperature. It’s common in people who have, staphylococcal
infections, certain hemolytic anemias and trypanosomiasis.
Paroxysmal Cold Hemoglobinuria is a disorder that makes the red blood corpuscles
abnormally susceptible to antibodies which try to eliminate them.
It is also started by being exposed to the cold.
